Safety Committee

Mission:

To assist in minor emergencies, such as power outages and to take steps necessary to be prepared for emergencies on a larger scale.

Accomplishments, 2007

The primary accomplishment for 2007 was the installation of the new garage gates motors and back up batteries. We also removed the old hoses and installed a magnetic field for opening the garage doors with new motors and doors sliders that are quiet and do not disturb those living above the gates. These motors have a back up system that permits the doors to open automatically when the power is shut off, allowing cars to enter and leave the building when power is cut. The committee is also recommending a smoke detector for units with a battery life of ten years.

The committee performed on-site inspections and had the fire sprinklers cleaned and updated in the garage ceiling. The dry pipe was repaired under the direction of Robin and is now in excellent shape.

The committee provided "Together We Prepare Oregon" booklets outlining preparations should a disaster occur, and encourages everyone to make a plan and assemble a kit for a three-day emergency. Homeowners should remember that during an emergency, basic services could be cut off in the building and in order that you remain comfortable you should have water, food, a first-aid kit, blankets, portable battery-operated radio, flashlight and spare batteries, non electric can opener, duct tape and plastic sheeting or large plastic garbage bags for sheltering in place. For a complete list we encourage you to read the booklet from the Red Cross.

Goals 2008

The committee will be conducting a security check of the property with the assistance of the Office of Neighborhood Involvement. They will continue to work on scheduling a fire drill in 2008 and make sure all of the emergency lighting is functioning properly during power outages.
